Surgery Appointments
What to Expect on Surgery Day
When you arrive, please check in at the surgery front desk. One of our surgery coordinators will greet you and review the consent forms required for surgery. You will be given a locker to store any items you may have with you—please leave valuables at home. Wear loose, comfortable clothing with short sleeves. Bring all of your eye drops with you on the day of surgery for review.
Checklist for Surgery
- Review all materials in the packet you receive when you schedule your surgery. Contact us prior to the day of surgery if you have any questions.
- Plan to be at the surgery center for two to three hours on the day of surgery. Your arrival time may be subject to change and will be confirmed one to three business days prior to surgery.
- You will need a responsible adult to accompany/drive you home following surgery. We recommend you have a driver for your appointment the day after surgery, as well.
- Fill all prescriptions and use them as directed before and after your surgery.
- Bring all of your eye drops with you on the day of surgery.
- Follow preoperative instructions about withholding food and drink before surgery.
- Regular medications should be taken unless otherwise instructed by your physician. If you are diabetic or take blood thinners, you will receive specific, detailed instructions in your preoperative packet.
- Leave valuables at home on the day of surgery.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing with short sleeves.
- Do not wear any makeup. Thoroughly remove any eye makeup.
- If you use any inhalers or a breathing device, bring them with you on the day of surgery.
After Surgery
After surgery, you will wait in the recovery area for approximately 10 minutes until you are stable. Your vital signs will be taken and your IV removed; and you will be given a light snack. Remember, you must arrange for someone to take you home—you may not drive yourself home. To avoid the possibility of complications, it is important to follow your postoperative instructions and return for your scheduled postoperative appointments.
