Washington State Requirements for Continuing Education

Washington State doesn’t have credentialing requirements for optometric or ophthalmic technicians, however, professional credentialing and certification provide opportunities for career advancement in this industry.

American Optometric Association (AOA) Requirements for Optometric Technicians:

Certification information can be found on AOA’s website.

According to the AOA, those who hold a designation of CPO™, CPOA™ or CPOT™ must participate in continuing education activities and report such activities to the CPC every three (3) years. They must earn a minimum of 18 hours every three years.

Those certificants who hold a designation of CPOC™ must participate in continuing education activities and report such activities to the CPC every three years. A minimum of 9 hours every three (3) years must be earned.
